What Should You Eat After Dental Implant Surgery?

Dental implants can have such a positive impact on your life. In addition to getting a bright, healthy smile, they also do not require you to give up eating or drinking your favorite things. However, just after your surgery and for several weeks afterward, you do need to be careful about what you eat and drink. Here are some things you need to know:

Can You Eat Right After Dental Implant Surgery?

Right after your dental implant surgery, you are free to eat and drink. Keep in mind, however, that your mouth and gums will be sore and swollen. For that reason, you should consider only eating liquids and soft foods. Some foods can include broths, soups, smoothies, and juices.

What Can You Eat a Few Days After Dental Implant Surgery?

After the first couple of days after your dental implant surgery, you should still be eating mostly soft foods because your mouth may still be sore. Try to eat some protein sources balanced with carbohydrates and fats to help keep you full and healthy. Some things you can eat include protein shakes, scrambled eggs, ripe bananas, yogurt, oatmeal, bone broth, and cottage cheese.

There are also some things you should try to avoid during this point in your recovery period. This includes spicy peppers and sauces, crunchy items such as popcorn and nuts, really hot items like tea or coffee, acidic items such as tomatoes and citrus fruit, chewing gum, and anything that is sticky like taffy.

What Can You Eat Within the First Week After Surgery?

As your mouth begins to heal, you can begin to eat more solid food. You can start to enjoy some meats like fish, ground beef, and chicken. Try to avoid tough cuts of meat. You can also enjoy some fresh fruits and vegetables like blueberries and sweet potatoes. Healthy fats such as olives, avocados, and peanut butter are good to enjoy at this point. You should still try to avoid hard or crunchy foods and anything sticky for at least a few more weeks until your doctor tells you to go back to your regular diet.

Dental implants can be a great benefit. To best prepare for your dental implant surgery recovery, make sure you have some easy foods and beverages prepared ahead of your procedure. Get some of your favorite liquid and soft foods ready to go so you can easily access them after your dental implant surgery.
